How do i suggest add-on's and upsell's?
I will be starting a seasonal position with a gift and food company soon, i will be taking calls from people ordering gift and food baskets for the holidays, in these trying times we still have to ask for upsell's and add-on's, as bad as it makes me feel. Our calls are monitored so there is no getting around it, they make sure we are asking. I can sell, i just don't want to force it on customer's.I dread even asking, especially when i get someone wanting to buy gifts but on a budget, any suggestions how to do what i have to do without sounding like i'm just doing my job? I know how it makes me feel, so i'm sympathetic.
Believe it or not, there are some that appreciate the suggestions, my first response would be, Why, i didn't know that! But the grandmother who can't get out of her little apartment in New York or wearever who is already on a budget, and this is how she does her gift shopping for her children and grandchildren, on a budget.
You need to remember that you are helping them when you make suggestions. You are simply having a conversation and providing information.
Some folks will say NO and that's ok. Others will buy the additional items. You have no way of knowing over the telephone what each customer can and cannot afford.
