What is a good gift for someone of any age or gender?

I am having a family reunion and there is a prize at the end for someone to win. I need ideas for gifts that would be good for any age or gender. Something like a silent auction basket or themed basket. The age range is from 5 to 78, though the prize will most likely go to a teenager, but it could go to anyone because it is basically luck.
Please don't mention gift cards because I have already thought of that and am trying to be more creative.
thanks for all the help.

Mugs!

Have a polite day.

Secret Messages

For those who have special events coming up, and we all know that they occur all the time, finding the correct gift can be a daunting task. What to get for someone who has been familiar to the giver for some years tends to be more difficult to buy for. After all, most of the obvious gifts have been already bought over the past years, and no one wants to double up on gifts – that is unless it is diamonds! Joking aside, some people would be most disappointed if they received a duplicate gift, particularly if it is from someone very close.

But there is a way to make a gift a little different from any other that they have received before. That is, get a touching message, or the recipient's initials or name, engraved on the gift. Personalized gifts are so much more valued than those which are given with no engraving or etching. It tells the recipient that they have been thought about, and are valued to the point of the extra work involved in buying the gift. Who would not like to feel that special?

For ladies, nothing fits the bill better than an exquisite piece of jewelry. However, if she already has an abundance of it, then she may feel a little disappointed unless it is pretty special. Most kinds of jewelry are perfect for being engraved. Lockets, with the engraving on either the outside or inside, make great little heirlooms for the future. Photos of loved ones, and even a lock of her baby's hair, are kept in a perfect state. Some people would use this to hold memories of loved ones who have passed. Indeed, particularly in the Victorian era, mourning brooches were made with a glass dome to hold the lock of hair. These days, of course, people tend to keep their mourning to themselves, but the option is there nevertheless.

Bracelets and rings are perfect for engraving too. The solid cuff style bracelet has a perfect, flat area for writing practically anything on it. These new styles are also being worn by men, but the identity bracelets that have been around for decades are also firm favorites for this type of personalized gift.

Rings, particularly those associated with weddings and engagements, are a lovely item to be engraved. While most people would have initials and dates engraved on the inside of the ring, some people have now taken to having something meaningful engraved on the outside for all to see. Maybe adding a phrase like ‘the circle of life' or ‘forever and ever' can be engraved on the outside of the ring to depict that love is endless just like the surface of the ring.

During wartime, husbands and wives, or boyfriends and girlfriends, would only be able to keep in touch by letter. If one of the couple was serving their country, the letters would be checked to make sure that no secrets were being revealed, on purpose or inadvertently, so the couple would be shy of writing what they wanted, particularly if it was romantic in nature. So someone came up with the idea of just putting initials. S.W.A.L.K. meant ‘sealed with a loving kiss', while I.T.A.L.Y. represented ‘I trust and love you'. What a lovely way to send a very personal message to a sweetheart, known to the countries that were using it, but not one that would be understood by anyone foreign.

For those who want to give a personalized gift to be kept possibly as an heirloom, crystal glass is perhaps one of the prettiest gifts anyone could give. This beautiful medium is perfect for vases, glasses of all shapes and sizes, and even photo frames. One of the more stylish designs that are becoming very popular is glass vases to be used as table centers at weddings. The initials of the couple are engraved on the vase, used on the tables, and then given as wedding favors to important guests.

Weddings are also a great time to give personalized gifts. Both the bridesmaids and groomsmen will be given something from the bride and groom and these styles of gifts are perfect for engraving. Cufflinks, pendants and bracelets etc are all great for giving as personalized gifts, with the initials of the recipients being engraved on before they are given out. Even jewelry boxes fit well for giving out to these people and are very useful for keeping the recipient's jewelry safe and all in one place. Styles vary greatly but names and initials can also be added on wood.

Photo frames that have etching kits included are also a popular choice since the recipient can etch just what they like n the glass. These have become popular for bridal showers and family reunions where the guests put on their own special messages. This is a lovely way to personalize gifts for sure and many will use this style of gift to make something extra special, perhaps for grandparents etc.

Babies also bring the necessity of giving something special as a gift. Here there are many ideas to personalize the gift. gift Baskets filled with everything that the baby needs for the first months are include. Many sets are offered with the option to have the baby's initial or name embroidered onto several pieces of clothing in the basket. Some gift baskets are completed with quite a large toy for the baby play with in future; small trucks to pull along or carts, which can also be personalized, are prime examples. These sets are also available as ‘twin' sets which make them even more unique.

Whatever the reason behind the gift, there are many styles and items to choose from. To add a name, special date or initials, makes it unique to that person and somehow increases its intrinsic value. People feel that their gift is now a one-off and could not be used by anyone else. Surely that is reason enough to give personalized gifts.
